In this article, we explore the Upside app, a powerful tool for saving money on everyday expenses like gas, groceries, and dining through cashback offers. The app allows users to easily activate deals before making purchases, enabling them to earn rewards effortlessly. We discuss how the app works, including the process of earning cashback, submitting receipts, and cashing out rewards. Additionally, we highlight the variety of offers available and share personal experiences to illustrate the potential savings. Whether you're looking to maximize your rewards or simply save on your next fill-up, the Upside app is worth considering.

Introduction

Did you know that the average American spends over $2,000 a year on gas alone? What if you could earn cashback on every fill-up?

There are many different apps that claim to save you money and help you earn cash back. However, most of the time the amount you earn is very small and takes a long time to earn anything. Well I have been using the Upside App for quite some time now and i can safely say this app is a great tool to have if you are looking to earn some cash back and save at the gas pump.

What is the Upside App?

Simple - Upside App is helping users save money on gas, groceries, and dining by offering cashback deals.

Imagine you are going to your local BP to fill gas every week (assuming you do not drive an EV of course), well now before you fill up, you simply have to click on the app, activate a cash back offer (if one is available), you pay and that's it, you earn cash back that you can then redeem for various gift cards or have the money sent to your PayPal or bank account. There's really not much else to it, but if you want more detailed overview - I got it outlined below for you.

How Does it Work?

  1. Earning Cashback: Users can earn cashback by purchasing gas, groceries, or dining at participating locations and claiming offers available in the app.
  2. Submitting Receipts: After making a qualifying purchase, users may need to submit a receipt through the app to verify the transaction. Some offers may allow users to link their credit or debit cards for automatic tracking, eliminating the need for receipt submission. That's exactly what I have done as well. Every time I go to BP to fill up, I use my card on file and I fill up, as long as I activate the offer in the app, everything is automatic.
  3. Cashback Payment: Once the purchase is verified, the cashback amount is credited to the user's Upside account. Users can typically cash out their earnings once they reach a certain threshold, often through options like direct deposit to a bank account, PayPal, or gift cards.
  4. Payment Timing: The timing of when users receive their cashback can vary based on the offer and the verification process, but it usually occurs within a few days after the purchase is confirmed.

Types of Offers Available

Within the Upside App, you may find a variety of offers. The offers that I typically use are the gas cash back offers as I have previously mentioned. I personally get the most value out of the offers that allow me to save money on gas. However, there are also restaurants, and grocery stores cash back offers. They all work the same way, you activate the offer, shop or make a purchase, and then you get the specified cash back offer back.

In some cases you can get quite a huge cash back offer. I recently dined in a ramen restaurant because the restaurant participated in the Delta Skymiles Dining program, so I wanted to earn miles. Little did I know, the restaurant also participated in the Upside App program and I could have received 6% back on my meal - essentially double dipping.

My Chase Saphire Preferred credit card offers me 3% back on dining, I am a Skymiles dining VIP member earning 5 miles per dollar spent, and if I had remembered to look at the Upside app, I could have gotten even more rewards back. So the key is to enable the notifications in the Upside app and remember to check it, even if you think the restaurant may not offer anything - always worth it to check.

By the way if you do not have a Chase Saphire Preferred card, I strongly recommend grabbing one also, especially if you are an avid traveler, They have some pretty cool perks for travelers!

Conclusion

In a world where every penny counts, the Upside app stands out as a powerful tool for saving money on everyday expenses like gas, groceries, and dining. With its user-friendly interface and straightforward cashback process, it allows you to earn rewards effortlessly. By simply activating offers before you shop, you can maximize your savings and even combine them with other rewards programs for even greater benefits.

As I’ve shared from my own experience, the potential for cashback is significant, and it’s always worth checking the app before making a purchase. Whether you’re filling up your tank or enjoying a meal out, the Upside app can help you keep more money in your pocket.
